Meanwhile, raising serious questions over the closure of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical Institute of Excellence (SMVDIME) by pointing out several shortcomings by the MCC, following a controversy over the admissions of majority candidates from the majority community, Congress said that it is a cover up to the failure of BJP chief JP Nadda, presently heading the Union Health Ministry apart from Management of the SMVDS Board and asked BJP’ to explain the benefits of the closure of the future premier Medical institute in the region, to the youth of Jammu.
Reacting to the situation JKPCC Chief, Tariq Hameed Karra termed it very unfortunate that a premier Medical Institute in the region named after Holy Mata Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, which could have come up one of a fine institutions in the field, given the financial backing but has been closed down for political reasons to cover up the initial fault and failures of the authorities of Board and Health Ministry, not to grant minority status to the institute.
Instead of rectifying their mistake, the institute has been closed down, at the cost of overall interests of people especially, from Jammu province, only to claim moral victory by BJP, for vote bank politics. After spending crores of rupees, a Medical Institution in Jammu region has been got closed by BJP and now telling people to celebrate, for what, he asked and appealed people to question BJP for this unwise decision against the interest of people of the region.
National Conference Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, expressed grave concern over the withdrawal of permission granted to the SMVDIME by the NMC terming it a clear case of administrative failure and political apathy for which the BJP-led Central Government and the Lieutenant Governor’s Administration are solely responsible. Stating that the decision has jeopardised the future of hundreds of medical aspirants, he demanded immediate corrective measures to meet all NMC requirements, urgent restoration of permission to the SMVDIME.
Former Cabinet Minister and Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir also expressed serious concern over the NMC decision to withdraw the Letter of Permission (LoP) granted to SMVDIME. He questioned decision-making process of the regulatory body. “The NMC must answer an important question-why was SMVDIME earlier declared eligible to function as a medical college, and why has it now been found ineligible, in a year’s time? Who will take responsibility for the suffering of the students who are now facing uncertainty?” he asked.
Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony launched a blistering attack on the BJP, RSS-backed organisations and the Sangharsh Samiti, terming the withdrawal of permission for the medical college as a “black chapter and black day in the educational history of Jammu & Kashmir.” He said the decision has crushed the age-old values of brotherhood and fraternity taught by our forefathers and replaced them with communal hatred, deceit and dirty politics engineered by the BJP-RSS nexus.
