SAMBA, Nov 23: On the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba Benam Tosh, Police has registered FIR and arrested three persons for illegal mining from holy Devika river near AIIMS, Vijaypur in district Samba today.
The arrested accused have been identified as Masoom Ali alias Bachi, Mushtaq Ali and Ashraf Ali all of Rakh Barotian Vijaypur district Samba.
This is the third FIR registered by Samba Police within a fortnight for illegal mining from Holy Devikariver. Earlier, on September 9 police had registered two FIRs at Police Station Purmandal and had arrested two accused for illegal mining from holy Devika river near famous religious-tourism destinations of Purmandal and Utterbehni.
Police has seized vehicle used for illegal mining from holy Devika river and investigation is going on.
The accused were arrested by a police team comprising of SHO Police Station (PS), Vijaypur, Sandeep Charak, PSI Ankush Sharma and PSI Aaber Khan under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur, Rohit Kumar and Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary.
Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh said that police is duty-bound to register FIRs to stop illegal mining. Holy Devika river is famous for containing water of unique properties in the world, has been sacred river for ages together and therefore, every citizen should maintain its sanctity and should work to conserve it.
