Sale of cigarettes around hospitals banned

SRINAGAR, July 11: According to District Magistrate Srinagar, the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products within 100 yards of all hospitals has been banned.
“As such Medical Superintendents of all hospitals in the district will ensure that no sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products is allowed within 100 yards around their institutions,” he said.
The violation, if any, will be intimated by the concerned Medical Superintendents to the concerned authorities so that the shops of defaulters are sealed.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, Srinagar in another order has banned the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to the persons below 18 years of age and within 100 yards of all educational institutions.
According to the communique, any shopkeeper found selling Gutkha or tobacco products to persons below 18 years or within 100 yards around any educational institutions will be liable to fine as well as cancellation of registration of their shop.
