JAMMU, Nov 15: The Surgeons Association of Jammu Conference (SAJCON) 2024 commenced at GMC Jammu, in collaboration with the PG Department of Surgery, GMC Jammu, and ASCOMS, bringing together leading surgeons from across India.
Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education J&K, presided over the inaugural function as chief guest. Addressing a large gathering of students and faculty, Dr Shah emphasized the vital role of surgical conferences in enhancing regional medical expertise.
On the first day, a live operative workshop was held where top surgeons showcased advanced surgical techniques, with their live procedures relayed to delegates and faculty members gathered in the auditorium.
The workshop featured prominent surgeons, including Dr Ganesh Shenoy from Bengaluru, who demonstrated a challenging anterior abdominal wall repair, and Prof Iqbal Saleem, along with Dr Manish Baijal and Dr Zahur, who performed laparoscopic repairs for groin hernias.
Dr Kamal Gupta, Secretary of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India (ACRSI), executed laser treatments for conditions like hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas. Dr Arvind Kumar showcased laparoscopic techniques in carcinoma gall bladder surgery, and Dr Salim Naik conducted a sleeve gastrectomy for morbid obesity, adding a comprehensive mix of surgical expertise to the session.
Prof Ratnakar Sharma, organizing Chairman and president of the Surgeons Association of Jammu, highlighted the significance of the conference, stating that SAJCON 2024 represents our commitment to enhancing surgical expertise in the region.
Active participants from GMC’s faculty included Dr Satish Parihar, Dr Reyaz, Dr Kailash Singh, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Shyam, Dr Rajni, Dr Talib, Dr Sanjay Dhar, Dr Javed, Dr Hamid Wani, Dr Sandeep Bhat, Dr Raja Langer, Dr Raheel and Dr Hamza Wani.
On the second day today, lectures covered recent advancements in surgery, featuring guest faculty and local speakers. Discussions were held on cutting-edge topics, with senior residents and postgraduates actively engaging in the deliberations, reflecting SAJCON’s emphasis on interactive learning and professional growth.
