Speaking to reporters here, he said, “Look, there is a proposal to increase fares, but it is just a proposal. The government has not examined it fully yet.”
The NC spokesman said transporters have raised demands, but the government must balance those concerns with the interests of common people. “Keeping transporters in mind and also the common people, a via media will have to be found. But as of today, there is no such order,” he said.
He made it clear that fares remain unchanged. “There is no hike. It is the same as it was before. If anyone has increased fares, they are doing it wrong. They should wait for the government order,” Sadiq said.
The NC spokesperson said he has already spoken to the concerned minister, Satish Sharma, who, according to him, will clarify the matter publicly. “When the government order comes, we will approach the minister. I have already spoken to him, and he himself will come to the media and explain it,” he said.
Reacting to remarks by a BJP leader who allegedly said that political leaders pose a greater threat to Kashmir than terrorists, Sadiq termed the statement “bitter and deeply unfortunate.”
He accused the BJP of practising sectarian politics and said such remarks harm dialogue and unity. “We are always trying to bring Jammu and Kashmir onto the same platform. When there is dialogue, things improve. But their politics of sectarianism is a pity,” he said.
He further claimed that the BJP has failed politically over the last five to six years. “They have failed as MLAs, and now they are resorting to dirty politics,” he added.
On questions related to arrests and bail in cases involving Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, Sadiq said that demanding justice for innocent detainees is a democratic right. “If innocent people are in jail, including many from Kashmir, strengthening the judicial process to secure their release is our right, and we will continue to do that,” he said.
On upcoming budget session, Sadiq said the announcements made in the previous budget have been implemented. “There is the amnesty, facilities for women travelling in buses, and several other measures,” he said.
