JAMMU, Sept 3: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today visited several rain and flood-affected areas on the outskirts of Jammu to assess damages and interact with the affected families.
During his visit to Mangu Chak and Khandwal, Sadhotra assured people that the Omar Abdullah-led Government is closely monitoring the situation and that relief, rehabilitation and restoration of normalcy remain top priorities. He said the administration has been put on high alert on the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is personally reviewing the ground situation.
“Like during the devastating floods of 2014, Omar Abdullah is determined to steer the people out of this testing phase with courage and compassion,” Sadhotra said, expressing solidarity with the affected families. He reiterated that NC stands shoulder to shoulder with the people in this hour of crisis.
The NC leader urged the officers working in the field to identify the worst-hit families and extend urgent support, including medical aid and preventive measures against waterborne diseases. He also stressed the need for long-term rehabilitation to restore lives and livelihoods.
Highlighting local issues, Sadhotra urged the administration to take up the matter with the National Highway Authority of India regarding the alignment of the Ring Road, which, he said, has become a major cause of water-logging in Mangu Chak and adjoining areas. “Such man-made factors have compounded the natural disaster and must be addressed urgently,” he added.
Acknowledging the initiative of locals, led by Jatinder Singh Lucky, for distributing blankets among the needy in Mangu Chak, Sadhotra called upon NC cadres to remain with the people and extend all possible assistance until full normalcy is restored.
Those accompanying Sadhotra during the visit included Naresh Bittu, Chander Mohan Sharma, Raghubir Singh, Randhir Singh Chib, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Jatinder Singh Lucky, Veer Ji Bhat, Gurmeet Singh Jimmy, Bishan Dass Bhagat, Gurnam Singh, Ashwani Charak, Jatinder Choudhary, Manmohan, Amit Kumar, Narinder Singh Jamwal, Dhruv Singh Jamwal, Ranjeet Singh and Akshay Kumar.
