JAMMU, Aug 27: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, today undertook an extensive tour of the flash flood-affected areas in Jammu North Assembly Constituency to assess damages caused by the recent deluge.
Sadhotra visited Roop Nagar Colony, Bhawani Nagar, Shivalik Puram and adjoining areas falling under Jammu Municipal Wards 62 and 37, where incessant rains and flash floods wreaked havoc. Interacting with affected families, he assured them that the NC, under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, would take up their grievances at appropriate levels for redressal.
Expressing serious concern over the absence of a protection wall on a major nallah passing through Roop Nagar Colony, he said the heavy water flow had damaged several houses and even led to the collapse of a double-storey structure. He pressed for immediate relief and financial aid to the victims. The NC leader also raised the issue with the Vice Chairman of Jammu Development Authority (JDA), urging early construction of a protection wall and restoration of flood-hit roads.
In Bhawani Nagar, he impressed upon the Forest Department to renovate and widen the nallah passing through the local park to avert future flooding, while in Shivalik Puram he demanded widening of the nallah to prevent similar devastation. He also sought urgent repair of damaged roads across Jammu North.
Referring to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s visit to flood-hit areas earlier in the day, Sadhotra said it rekindled hope among the affected families for fast-track of basic services. He NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah is personally monitoring the situation and remains in constant touch regarding the sufferings of the people.
Sadhotra was accompanied by Raghubir Singh (district president Jammu), Uttam Deep Sharma, Rakesh Kumar Kapahi, Sandeep Singh Manhas, Bal Krishan Sharma, Mohan Lal Gupta, Nand Lal Bhat, Ashok Sharma, Jasmeet Singh and Devender Singh.
