KATHUA, Aug 21: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today visited the cloudburst and flood-affected Ghati and Janglot areas.
Sadhotra met with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the natural calamity. Expressing profound grief over the tragic loss, Sadhotra said that no words were enough to describe the magnitude of the sorrow they were enduring. He said the entire people of Jammu and Kashmir, in general, and the cadre of the National Conference, in particular, stood in solidarity with the families at this dark hour of grief.
The former minister said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is personally monitoring the relief and rehabilitation measures being undertaken in the affected areas to ensure that every possible support is extended to the victims and their families. Stating that tragedies of such magnitude shake the conscience of society, he called for collective empathy and support.
During his visit, Sadhotra also visited the Government Medical College Kathua to enquire about the condition of the injured undergoing treatment and wished them a speedy and complete recovery.
He sought alternate land for the 16 families of Jodh/Baddal villagers, as the land of their dwelling places has sunk. He also sought survey of 30 adjoining villages for assessing the damages for compensation. He said he will take up the matter with the Chief Minister and the Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
Sadhotra also visited Panchayat Ghar Ghatti and met the residents of Manhas Mohalla. He assured that the issues raised would be taken up at the appropriate levels for redress so. Later, he met Deputy Commissioner Kathua and discussed with him the issues of the affected villages.
Others who accompanied Sadhotra were Ayub Malik (secretary province), district presidents Kathua Ajit Seth and Sham Narain Mehta, and district presidents Jammu Raghbir Singh Manhas and Maresh Bitu.
