JAMMU, Sept 2: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma, accusing him of indulging in “lowest level politics” by alleging that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was indifferent to the plight of flood-ravaged Jammu.
During a visit to the affected areas of Badyal Brahmana in R S Pura, Sadhotra said it was due to the Chief Minister’s personal supervision and regular monitoring that the administration was able to minimize public suffering across the region. “The CM’s presence on the ground, his consistent reviews and engagement ensured timely rescue, relief and restoration work,” he said.
Rejecting Sharma’s allegations as “diversionary tactics” by the BJP, Sadhotra said the party was only trying to cover up its failures. He also criticixed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Jammu, terming the relief announcement of Rs 209 crore as “grossly inadequate and an insult to the sufferings of the people.”
“The paltry sum has left Jammuites dismayed, especially when seen against the colossal losses caused by incessant rains and floods,” Sadhotra said, adding that people who had given the BJP a massive mandate in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections now feel betrayed.
During his tour, Sadhotra interacted with locals and took up several issues with officials, including regulated power supply, immediate restoration of damaged roads, preventive flood control measures, and early assessment of crop damages in Badyal Brahmana. He urged that compensation be expedited for affected families.
Sadhotra assured that the NC would continue to highlight the concerns of flood-hit people and press for adequate relief, rehabilitation and long-term preventive measures.
Prominent among those accompanying Sadhotra included Naresh Bittu, Chander Mohan Sharma, Raghubir Singh Manhas, Veer Ji Bhat, Bishan Singh, Jatinder Chowdhary, Amit Kumar, Manmohan, Jatinder Singh Lucky, Ashwani Charak, Gurnam Singh, Karamjeet Singh, Akshay Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Narinder Singh Jamwal and Dhruv Singh Jamwal.
