JAMMU, Dec 19: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra called upon people and party cadre to prepare for the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and panchayat elections.
Addressing a day-long NC convention at Pakhian Mishriwalla in the Jammu North Assembly constituency, Sadhotra said empowered local bodies form the backbone of good governance and people-centric development. The convention was organized in connection with preparations for the panchayat polls.
Sadhotra appealed to voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their democratic rights, reiterating that the National Conference has consistently advocated decentralization of power and meaningful citizen participation to address local issues and ensure balanced development.
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP, he accused the party of pursuing divisive politics instead of focusing on development, employment and public welfare. Sadhotra alleged that the BJP has sought to polarize society for narrow political gains, thereby weakening social harmony and the spirit of unity and brotherhood.
Reaffirming NC’s core ideology, he said the party stands for inclusive growth and equal opportunities for all, irrespective of region, religion or background. He emphasized that peace, stability and progress can only be achieved through policies that unite people and address their genuine concerns.
Sadhotra also urged NC workers to intensify outreach at the grassroots level, understand day-to-day public problems and raise issues at appropriate forums. He stressed the need to make people aware of welfare schemes so that the benefits of development reach the last person.
Strongly pressing for restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Sadhotra demanded immediate passage of business rules, terming delays detrimental to public interest and governance. He accused the BJP-led government of failing to honour assurances made in Parliament and before the Supreme Court.
Among those present in the meeting were Mohd Ayub Malik (provincial secretary Jammu), Raghbir Singh Manhas (district president, Jammu Rural A), Subash Bhagat, Satpal Karlopia former corporators, Shabir Sambyal (vice president, district Jammu Urban), Rajesh Bakashi (ex-district president Jammu Urban), Sandeep Singh Manhas, Ram Mohd Advocate, Jatinder Singh Lucky and Karanjeet.
