JAMMU, Sept 21: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of indulging in “cheap and negative politics” to cover up its failures and betrayals of the people of Jammu.
In a statement, Sadhotra said the people of Jammu, who had given the BJP an unprecedented mandate, today feel “completely betrayed, disillusioned and angry” over the party’s failure to represent their aspirations. He charged that at a time when people were reeling under the devastation caused by flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides and incessant rains, the BJP was more concerned with optics than with genuine relief measures. “Even the much-hyped visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah failed to bring any substantial relief,” he added.
Sadhotra said the BJP’s inability to demand a special financial package for flood-affected people was a “damning indictment” of its misplaced priorities. Instead of standing with the people in their hour of crisis, the party has chosen to “launch unwarranted criticism” against NC as a diversionary tactic, he alleged.
The NC leader maintained that the robust outreach programme by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the past month has rekindled hope among affected families, frustrating the BJP. “Omar’s massive connect with victims has unnerved them, as their irrelevance on the ground is being exposed,” he said.
Warning that public anger was “simmering,” Sadhotra said youth, farmers, traders and flood-hit families feel cheated by BJP’s inaction. “The party which boasted of being the ‘voice of Jammu’ stands exposed as a hollow slogan-mongering machine,” he asserted.
Reiterating NC’s commitment to stand with the suffering masses, Sadhotra said the party’s history was deeply intertwined with the struggles of J&K’s people, unlike the BJP which “survives on rhetoric.” He concluded that the politics of deception cannot last forever and the people of Jammu will soon hold the BJP accountable for its betrayals.
