SAMBA, Nov 15:A rusted mortar shell was found during the excavation of a drain along the Jammu-Pathankot, National Highway (NH) in Samba district here on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the shell was discovered at 10 a.m. by workers from a construction company engaged in widening the Highway near a private degree college in the town. A JCB machine was digging at that time when one of the workers suddenly noticed the shell and immediately stopped the JCB and informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, a team from the Samba Police Station (PS) arrived at the scene and sealed off the area. The bomb squad was subsequently called in.
They seized the shell, transported it to a safe location, and defused it. Police have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated further investigations.
