Russian FM Sergey Lavrov accuses West of abusing dollar to supress rivals, use tariffs, sanctions to influence economic policies

MOSCOW, Sept 2: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the West of abusing its hold on the dollar to suppress its opponents, or otherwise influence economic policies of countries it is on odds with by way of sanctions, tariffs, and other such measures to bend it on terms favourable to them.
Lavrov remarked that the West in its opposition to the emergence of a new multipolar world order, doing everything possible to prevent this, even “resorting to direct blackmail, pressure, and sanctions, rather than negotiations and fair competition, reports TASS.
“The West is also abusing the dollar s role in global affairs, imposing tariff wars on everyone around it,” the Russian official said in an interview on the Telegram channel of its state broadcaster VGTRK.
“All of this has nothing to do with defending the legitimate rights of the West in the global economy and global politics, but is simply being used as a means of suppressing competitors,” he added.
In addition, the Russian foreign minister noted that it is now clear to everyone that “these competitors have not only grown stronger, but in many respects are already ahead of the historical collective West.”
His comments came amid the SCO summit in Tianjin, and the trilateral meeting between the Indian, Chinese, and Russian heads of state all of whom showed a sense of unity and collective hostility to the West amid the global Trump tariffs. (UNI)
