MOSCOW, March 28: Russia remains ready to provide mediation services to resolve the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan, but no such requests have been received from either side, Zamir Kabulov, Russian special presidential envoy on Afghanistan and advisor to the foreign minister, told Sputnik.
“Russia is ready to provide mediation services if requested by the conflicting parties. So far, no such request has been received,” Kabulov said.
In early March, Pakistan carried out airstrikes on suspected militant hideouts in the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Paktika. According to Afghan authorities, dozens of civilians were killed and wounded in the strikes.
On February 26, Afghanistan had launched a military operation against Pakistani bases located along the Durand Line, the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan not recognised by Kabul, in response to bombings. Pakistan announced the launch of Operation Ghazab lil Haq in response to what it called “unprovoked shelling” by Afghanistan in several border sectors.
