SRINAGAR, Oct 22: National Conference (NC) candidate for the Budgam bypolls, Aga Syed Mahmood Al-Mousavi, today said that MP Aga Ruhullah could not have reached his current position without the support and mandate of the party.
Speaking to reporters during a workers’ meeting in Budgam, Mahmood said that while Ruhullah “has a background and comes from a family of influence,” he became a Member of Parliament only because of the NC.
“He reached where he is only after the party gave him the mandate. He could not have won on his own, and there is nothing wrong in saying that,” he said.
When asked whether Ruhullah would join the party’s campaign’ Mahmood said that Ruhullah is a man of the party and must decide for himself whether he wants to take part in the campaign or not.
He added that he himself is contesting the election because of the party’s mandate, and the same applies to Ruhullah. “It is for him to decide whether he wants to work for the party or not,” Mahmood said.
“I also said that he is my relative and like a son to me, but that was taken the wrong way. Apart from politics, he is my son – what he decides politically is up to him. Whether he will be part of the campaign or not is his own decision,” he clarified.
On who will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, Mahmood said it would be for the people to decide, adding that the Budgam Assembly constituency has always supported the NC. “I see the NC in a strong position. Budgam has been with the NC since 1977,” he added.
