Addressing a press conference, AIP State Secretary Sheikh Ashiq urged the people of Budgam to take note and give “change” a chance.
“People must understand the reality. Even one of NC’s top leaders, Aga Ruhullah, has realized that the party is running a ‘shop of lies’ and has stayed away from campaigning,” he said.
Ashiq emphasized that Budgam has an opportunity to reject traditional political parties and bring about development by voting for AIP’s candidate, Nazir Ahmad Khan.
He said the NC introduced the Public Safety Act (PSA) in J&K and questioned why, despite the post-abrogation legal overhaul, the PSA still exists while NC and PDP remain silent on its use against Kashmiris.
He added that since 2019, neither NC nor PDP resisted the BJP, claiming only AIP protested at Jantar Mantar seeking the PSA’s repeal, release of jailed MP Engineer Rashid and bringing back prisoners back to J&K.
“We will continue to demand that people’s rights are restored.”
Criticizing rival parties, the AIP leader said whether it is NC, PDP, or BJP, their focus is elsewhere. “Nagrota has been left as a token contest, while all attention is on Budgam.”
He called on voters to support Khan in the upcoming bypolls, promising a “new era of development” for Budgam.
