Rs 8 cr earmarked for creating sports infra in Kargil

SRINAGAR, May 27: In order to boost the sports activities in Kargil, an amount of Rs 8 crore are being spent in district Kargil under Urban Sports Scheme.
This information was given in a meeting of officers of Youth Services and Sports chaired by Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali here today, convened to discuss several issues related to development and upgradation of sports stadia and playing fields in the district.
The meeting was informed that the DPRs for construction of Multipurpose Hall Kargil on the pattern of Leh for Rs 6 crore under Urban Sports Scheme and VIP Pavillion at Kharee Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Kargil for Rs 2 crore have already been prepared last year and submitted for funding. It was also given out in the meeting that the work should be started soon.
The Chairman said that the youth of Kargil have immense talent but need of the hour is to encourage them so that they may compete at national and international levels.
Chairman, directed the authorities to initiate measures for upgradation of the existing sports stadium and playing fields to improve the sports activities in the District. He said that 40 students of district Kargil were selected in various games viz Boxing, Archery, Taekwondo, Table Tennis and Kho-Kho. He said that the youth of Kargil has vast experience in Taekwondo and they have brought laurels for the State at the international level also.
Haji Anayat directed the authorities to conduct sports festivals in various games especially inter-district Archery for all age groups at Kargil.
Besides the Director General Youth Services and Sports Jahangir Ahmad Mir, senior officers of YSS and Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
