SRINGAR, June 29: Nearly Rs 6 crores have been spent on the repair and renovation of bungalows/official residences/ private residences of Chief Minister, Ministers, politicians, bureaucrats and officers of various departments and judiciary in Srinagar and Jammu in just 21 months. Three journalists including two editors also figured in the list.
Minister incharge General Administration Department (GAD) revealed in the Legislative Council today that Rs 303.15 lakhs have been spent on repair and renovation in Jammu from March 2014 to December 2015 while Rs 288.554 lakhs were spent in Srinagar. The amount in total stands at Rs. 591.704 lakhs.
According to the official information, 118.02 lakhs were spent on repair and renovation of Residency Road, Rs. 2.59 lakhs at Ved Mandir, Rs.15.76 lakhs at Rehari Staff Headquarters, Rs. 18.71 lakhs on PWD bungalow Gandhi Nagar, Rs. 11. 26 lakhs at A-Type Special Gandhi Nagar, Rs. 26.71 lakhs at A-Block Gandhi Nagar, Rs. 29.48 at B-Block Gandhi Nagar, Rs. 63.36 lakhs at C-Block Gandhi Nagar, Rs. 4.76 lakhs at Panama Chowk and Rs. 1.09 lakh at Green House in Jammu.
Similarly in Kashmir, Rs. 92.63 lakhs were spent on repair and renovation at Sonwar Section, Rs. 117.65 lakhs at Gupkar Section, Rs. 52.34 lakhs at Tulsi Bagh and Rs. 25.92 lakh at M.A Road. Interestingly, the Government has spent Rs. 3.63 lakhs on the bungalow of a newspaper editor at B-Block Gandhi Nagar and Rs. 3.13 lakhs on the bungalow of an editor of a satellite news channel at C-Block Gandhi Nagar in Jammu while Rs. 0.94 lakhs have been spent on another journalist at Tulsi Bagh here in Srinagar.
The highest amount of Rs. 48 lakh has been spent on the Chief Minister’s Residence (VIP-1Wazarat Road) at Jammu followed by Rs. 20.04 lakhs at VIP-8 at Wazarat Road whose occupants at present are ex-Minister, Abdul Gani Malik and Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission chairman, Abdul Latif Deva.
The occupants of these accommodations include serving and former Ministers, serving and former legislators, leaders of political parties, chairmen of various boards/ commissions, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner Secretaries, Directors, Managing Directors of various Boards and Bodies heading various departments, officers and also three journalists.
Separately, Administrative Officer of Civil Aviation Department informed the House that State Government has spent Rs. 50702744 crores on the maintenance of State helicopters since March 2014 to December 2015. All the information revealed by the Government came in response to questions of Congress lawmaker, Rani Gargi Blowria.
