Rs 40 cr worth drone-dropped heroin seized

JAMMU, Feb 14: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized over 6.5 kilograms of heroin worth approximately Rs 40 crores along the International Border in RS Pura sector here, officials said.

The consignment is suspected to have been dropped from across the border using a drone.
Officials said the recovery was made from Nai Basti Karotana in the Baspur area near the International Border during a joint operation carried out by the 165 Battalion of the BSF and JKP team on the intervening night of February 13-14.
They said the operation was launched after specific inputs were received by the BSF regarding suspicious drone activity along the border.
Acting swiftly, a joint cordon and search operation was conducted in the wheat fields of the area, they said. Click here to watch video
During the search at the first light today, two yellow-coloured packets containing 6.582 kilograms of heroin worth approximately Rs 40 crores were recovered, officials further said.
Accordingly, they said the recovery memo was prepared on the spot in the presence of a magistrate and a case FIR number 36/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station RS Pura.
The case is being further investigated by SHO RS Pura, RS Parihar, assisted by Incharge Border Police Post Baspura, SI Ranbir Singh, under the overall supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu, IH Rather to establish the source and intended recipients of the contraband, a police officer said, adding that the backward and forward linkages are also being examined.
