JAMMU, Feb 13: A record penalty of Rs 3 crore has been realized from about 750 cases where violation of provisions of GST laws were established by the State Taxes Enforcement Wing (Central) Jammu team during the current financial year and more than 2.70 Lakh e-Way Bills have been verified. The enforcement efforts targeted violations such as movement of goods without e-Way Bills or e-Invoices, wrong declaration of tax rates, quantity mismatches, misclassification of goods etc. Major commodities for which penalties have been realized included marble/granite, metal scrap, cement, furniture, electronic goods, tobacco products, and TMT.
The enforcement/awareness drives were led by Sonu Pargal, Deputy Commissioner State Taxes, Enforcement (Central), Jammu, under the overall supervision of Namrita Dogra Additional Commissioner State Taxes (Enforcement & Administration) Jammu and P.K. Bhat, Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K.
The achievements were made possible through the strategic use of data analytics, information networks, and continuous monitoring, reinforcing the department’s commitment to a transparent and compliant tax regime
Continuing their efforts, the team from GST Enforcement (Central), Jammu during the ensuing financial year conducted enforcement and awareness activities in remote areas also to ensure compliance with GST laws and to educate stakeholders about their tax responsibilities. The campaigns served as a platform to inform traders, transporters, and consumers about the key provisions of the GST Act, 2017, with a special focus on the importance of proper documentation during the movement of goods.
The Enforcement (Central) Jammu team which included Saima Sharief Khan Assistant Commissioner and State Taxes Officers namely Mohd Naseem, Ranjeet Kour, Sonia Parihar, Simmi, Ashwani Kumar, Chander Badan and Amit Jain, also extended appreciation to transporters and drivers who adhered to the regulations laid out in the GST Act, 2017. These drives are not solely focused on penalty imposition but also on promoting tax awareness and fostering a culture of voluntary compliance.
The State Taxes Department reiterates its commitment to curbing tax evasion, enhancing compliance, and building trust with the business community, which has positively responded to the Department’s balanced approach of enforcement combined with education.
