Over Rs 200 cr spent on security of protected persons

Srinagar, June 14: Government today revealed that it spent Rs. 234.51 crore on the security of 1633 protected persons, excluding those who serve officers from police and security agencies, during 2015- 16.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Rajiv Jasrotia, Minister incharge Home stated that 1633 protected persons (other than serving officers from police and security Agencies) have been provided security cover under various categories. Besides, 284 un-categorised political activists have been provided secured hotel accommodations only, the Minister said.
The Minister further stated that the expenditure incurred on account of salary of PSOs, static guards, fuel and hotel accommodations for these protected persons varies from year to year depending upon the actual expenditure incurred.
“For the financial year 2015-2016, the annual expenditure on this account for 1917 protected persons (1633+284) has been Rs. 234.51 crore,” the Minister stated, adding “the salary of Police personnel (other than SPOs) deployed as PSOs or on guard duties with protected persons is being born by the State Government”.
The Minister further stated claims under transportation and accommodation are being reimbursed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as per SRE guidelines.
