Over 100 families given relief in Jammu distt

JAMMU, May 30: The administration today said that owner of a main house directly affected by shelling has been given Rs 1.20 lakh compensation as per the prescribed norms while nearby houses which were not directly hit and sustained minor damages were given Rs 6500 each.

In a statement issued here, the administration in response to reports that only Rs 6500 was provided to houses damaged in Pakistan shelling in Rehari, clarified that the main house directly affected by the shelling has been granted Rs 1.20 lakh as per the prescribed norms.
It said Neeraj Gupta, mentioned in a media report, and his daughter Hitakshi Gupta, have been provided Rs 35,000 each.
“Nearby houses, which were not directly hit but sustained minor damages, were provided Rs 6500 each, in accordance with the norms for minor damages,” the statement said.
It added that Rs 10,000 were additionally provided by the district administration to individuals who sustained minor injuries in the shelling.
“The district administration remains committed to ensuring that every concern of the shelling affected residents is addressed on priority, and all their genuine needs are fulfilled. We stand in solidarity with the affected families,” the statement read.
As per the officials, over 100 families in the Jammu district have been paid compensation for damage caused to their houses in the shelling.
In Rehari, they said, 18-19 families have been paid compensations including the families whose wind screens or even walls were damaged.
Besides Rehari, compensation has also been paid to the families in Janipura, Bhalwal, RS Pura and Khour.
Those injured in firing have been paid Rs 10,000 each and Rs 25,000 each from the CM’s Relief Fund.
As per the sources, compensation has also been paid to the people in rural areas for the animals killed in Pakistan shelling and firing.
