Rotary Club honours SKK’s Deaf & Dumb School Teachers

JAMMU, Sept 10: The Rotary Club of Jammu Stars delegation visited at the School for Hearing and Handicapped (Deaf & Dumb) and honoured teachers.
This School was founded and run by a noted Jammu based NGO, J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra (SKK) which is providing absolutely free education to divyang from Ist to 12th class.
A 7-member delegation of the Club headed by its President, Ritika Mahajan honoured the Principal Roshan Bhan and eight other teachers for consistently getting excellent results including distinctions by the divyang students, in all the J&K Board examinations from eighth class to twelfth class for the last seven eight years. The teachers are trained in sign language. In view of outstanding efforts of the NGO and the teaching faculty of the School, the Rotary Club of Jammu Stars has decided to honour the teachers today as part of its Teacher’s Day celebrations.
The teachers honoured by the Club with gifts and a certificate of merit are Anuradha Sharma, Neelam Sharma, Saroj Bakshi, Jyoti Saini (herself Divyang), Geetanjali, Seema Rani, Jaswant Singh and Ram Krishan.
The members of the delegation present on the occasion included Summi Seth (Additional Secretary), Anu Talwar, Shivani Gupta, Zutshi and Venus Sethi.
Lauding the efforts of the NGO and the teachers, Rtn. Ritika Mahajan said that the Rotary club was impressed by the selfless service in imparting education to deaf and dumb students free of cost. She also explained the objectives of the Rotary Club and its multifarious activities in serving the society. She offered Sewing machines and free coaching in cutting and tailoring to the students.
Summi Seth who also spoke on the occasion, asked for greater recognition of the services of the teachers by the society as they are pursuing a noble profession.
The General Secretary of the SKK, J. K Vaid welcomed the delegation of the Rotary Club and apprised the Club about the history of the Samaj Kalyan Kendra and its activities. The school is nowadays facing resource problem and looking for donations., he added
