JAMMU, Jan 22: Motor Vehicles Department in collaboration with Health Department, J&K Bank and Transport Unions organized a road safety awareness cum medical checkup camp at the General Bus Stand, Jammu.
The event was part of the National Road Safety Month, being observed across the country from 1st to 31st January. The inauguration was done by Yudhvir Sethi, MLA East; Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG JSK Range and Vishesh Mahajan, Transport Commissioner J&K.
Other dignitaries present included Vinay Samotra, Joint Transport Commissioner, J&K; Pankaj Bhagotra, RTO Jammu; Rehana Tabassam, ARTO (HQ) and Bipen Singh Charak, ARTO (FS).
The camp featured a health check-up session where over 200 drivers underwent medical examinations. Additionally, educational sessions were conducted to inform drivers about the benefits of Ayushman Health Cards and accidental insurance, enabling them to access vital healthcare and safety resources.
Yudhvir Sethi emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in fostering road safety awareness to save lives. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to build a safer environment for all road users.
Transport Commissioner underscored the significance of road safety and driver responsibility. He urged drivers to avoid drunken driving, ensure adequate rest and maintain proper documentation. Recognizing the critical role of the driver’s fraternity, he called for valuing their contributions by adhering to traffic regulations.
DIG JSK Range also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the collective responsibility of preventing road accidents and ensuring a safe driving environment.
The event saw active participation from drivers and stakeholders, marking a significant step towards promoting safety and awareness in the transport sector. Teams from the Health & Medical Education Department, J&K Bank, AYUSH and Motor Vehicle Inspectors also contributed to the program’s success.
