JAMMU, Nov 14: Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that the Railways Ministry will set up an exclusive Divisional Headquarters at Jammu shortly.
Dr Singh disclosed that after a delegation of Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry, led by its president Arun Gupta, met him at Jammu on Wednesday and submitted a proposal to set up the Railways Divisional Headquarters at Jammu, he promptly initiated the process.
He further disclosed that the matter was taken up with Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who accepted the proposal and initiated the process for the same. He said the Prime Minister Modi is personally monitoring the progress of railway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. He is keen to give Jammu its due and reinforce the railway facility cum railway administrative structure at Jammu which is soon going to be an important railway junction when the Kashmir valley, for the first time, gets connected with the rest of India through a rail network.
The JCCI team led by Arun Gupta (president) and accompanied by other office bearers- Rajeev Gupta (junior vice president), Manish Gupta (secretary general), Rajesh Gupta (secretary) and Rajesh Gupta-II (treasurer), called on Dr Jitendra Singh at Jammu yesterday and submitted a memorandum. They pointed out that Jammu Railway Station has already been declared as Railway Division but nothing concrete has been done in this regard so far.
They said Jammu is the major hub of Railway operation and with the rail connectivity up to Baramulla directly soon, its area of operation has been further extended. Under such circumstances Jammu deserves to be full fledged Railway Division.
Dr Jitendra Singh endorsed the demand and assured the Jammu Chamber delegation that he will take up the issue with the Union Railway Minister on priority. The JCCI extended gratitude the Union MOS in PMO, Dr Singh for his prompt action.
