JAMMU, May 23: The departure of Vande Bharat train was delayed for some time from Jammu Railway Station today due to protest by families of Railway staff, residing in the nearby colony over water crisis during these hot summer days.
The family members of the Railway staff, including their children, residing in the Railway Colony, assembled on the railway track at Jammu Tawi Railway Station and started protest over the acute shortage of drinking water supply in the staff quarters.
They were shouting slogans in support of their demand and also against the Northern Railways authorities and Jal Shakti Department. They alleged that water supply is irregular and they are getting hardly a bucket or two on alternate day. They claimed that they will not pay the rent of the quarters if the authorities failed to supply adequate water.
After some time, a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Railway Police and some senior Railway officials immediately swung into action and rushed to the spot to pacify the agitating women and children.
With the protest, Delhi-bound ‘Vande Bharat’ train coming from Katra, had to make a brief halt before the platform.
“The Vande Bharat halted only for a few minutes but it departed soon after the Railway officials pacified the protestors and assured them to address their grievance,” a senior Railway official said.
