JAMMU, Jan 11: A delegation of Uttar Railway Mazdoor Union (URMU) today met General Manager Railways to discuss several important issues pertaining to the Railway employees.
The delegation was led by Abdul Karim, divisional president URMU Jammu division.
They demanded that Katra-Banihal selection which was handed over to a private firm should be taken back and run by the Railways after proper recruitment of the staff.
“Jammu division has been struggling with acute shortage of staff after its formation. Matter should be seriously viewed for safe working of system and staff. Jammu division has been established since one year but transfer of administrative power has not yet been transferred to Jammu Tawi division,” a handout issued after the meeting said, adding there has been shortage of residential quarters causing lot of problems to serving Railway staff.
Other demands raised by the employees include starting a train between Katra to Srinagar with stoppage at different stations to facilitate staff working, finalization of LOCO proposal, issuance and implementation of duty roster of Signal and Telecom staff and up gradation of Railway Hospital Jammu to the divisional level.
The General Manager patiently heard the representatives and assured that the issues will be examined seriously, the release said.
