JAMMU, July 15: Resident Joint Action Committee (RJAC), Channi Himmat held a meeting under the chairmanship of its general secretary PL Kohli and discussed the worst condition of lanes, by-lanes and drains in the Channi Himmat area due to unplanned digging being done by the private telecom operators for the laying of Optical Fibre Cable in the area.
The members present in the meeting raised serious concern in respect of permission granted by the Civil Wing of Housing Board to the Reliance GIO for the digging of roads, by-lanes in the rainy season resulting, huge damage to the roads and drains vis-à-vis great inconvenience to the residents.
The damaged parts of the roads and drains are not yet repaired by the department resulting damage reported to the property of the residents and in case, of any major accident, the human life is at the stake for which the Reliance Company and the Housing Board will be responsible, they added.
They said that the matter was taken up to the notice of the Civil Wing of the Housing Board and higher officials, but nothing has been done till date.
It is a matter of great concern that the amount deposited by the Telecom Operator for the repair of damaged portion of roads and drains has been diverted by the department for some other works, which shows the attitude of the department towards the residents of the area, the members added.
They requested Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh and Kavinder Gupta, Speaker and MLA of the area to kindly intervene into the matter and issue immediate orders to the Housing Board to repair the damaged roads and drains on war footing basis and also constitute a High Level Committee to examine facts about the grant of permission for the digging of roads and drains of Burm at a very nominal rates whereas the extensive damage had been made to roads and drains.
