JAMMU, July 14: BJP executive member Raman Suri has held the National Conference-led Government in Jammu and Kashmir responsible for the growing crisis of waterborne diseases, accusing it of failing to fulfill its promises of providing clean drinking water across the Union Territory.
“Contaminated water is being supplied even in urban centres like Jammu, causing a surge in illnesses. This is a gross betrayal of public trust,” Suri said, highlighting that over 200 people in Kupwara and more than 50 in Rajouri have fallen ill due to waterborne diseases in recent weeks.
He claimed that these incidents reflect a recurring pattern during the rainy season and expose the Government’s hollow claims of ensuring safe water supply. Suri also pointed to the poor state of infrastructure in rural areas, where many households still lack piped water and depend on unsafe natural sources.
Slamming the alleged lapses under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Suri said despite crores of rupees being spent and ample central assistance, basic water needs remain unmet. He demanded strict accountability and immediate action to ensure the supply of clean, potable water, calling the Government’s inaction “unacceptable.”
