Srinagar, Sept 16: Students of the Royal Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Ganderbal, today staged a protest over the institute’s failure to obtain affiliation from the Indian Nursing Council (INC).
Carrying placards and raising slogans, dozens of students gathered outside the campus, accusing the management of negligence.
They said the lapse has put their education and careers in jeopardy.
“This is nothing less than playing with our careers,” one of the protesting students said.
The students said an INC inspection team had visited the institute in 2023, pointing out deficiencies in faculty and infrastructure, but alleged that no corrective measures had been taken since.
“Even our seniors are about to graduate without registration. What will we do with such degrees?” another student asked.
The institute offers courses including FMPHW, GNM, B.Sc Nursing, and B.Sc MLT.
However, without INC recognition, students fear their degrees will lack validity for jobs or professional licensing.
Institute Director Gulzar Ahmad acknowledged delays but said the matter was being addressed.
“We are committed to resolving this issue. Within the next two months, all deficiencies pointed out by INC will be rectified and affiliation will be secured,” he said.
The students, however, remained unconvinced. “Our patience has limits. We cannot let our years of study go to waste,” they said, urging higher authorities to intervene.
