JAMMU, Oct 21: All J&K Freedom Fighters Association, family members, admirers and friends paid rich tributes to brave hero of Indo-China war Sarup Singh on 50th martyrs day.
Fourty eight-hour continuous recitation of Gurbani and Shabad Kirtan was organised at the residence of Devinder Singh and Amrik Singh, sons of Sarup Singh at Ajit Nagar.
While addressing the gathering at Gurudwara Baba Ajit Singh Nagar, Ved Gandotra, president of the association threw light on the life of Sarup Singh and also highlighted his achievements.
Gandotra added that Sarup Singh was decorated with Mahavir Chakra posthumously for his peerless courage, adding, that after his death, 14th J&K Militia was converted into regular Army and Christianized as Ladakh Scouts.
Gajan Singh, president, State Akali Dal, while addressing put forth the demand of naming the road leading from Industrial Estate Digiana to MBS College as Shaheed Sarup Singh Marg and maintenance of the park build in the memory of the Shaheed Sarup Singh at Batote, district Ramban.
Raman Bhalla, Minister for Relief, Revenue and Rehabilitation, also paid tributes to the national hero and assured the gathering that he will put forth the proposal of naming of the above said road as Shaheed Sarup Singh Marg before the concerned agencies and also assured that the park build in the memory of Shaheed Sarup Singh will be maintained properly.
Among others present were Deputy Director General, Sher Singh, NSSO, Government of India, Kishore Kumar, official, NSSO, Colonel Mandhir and family, Retd Colonel Varinder Sahi, Retd Colonel Parveen Singh, Captain and jawans of Delta Force, Varinder Singh, besides many others.
