JAMMU, Sept 12: Rich tribute were paid with full honours to 1965 Indo-Pak war Martyr, Lt Thakur Dass Sharma, on his 61st Martyr’s Day by the Akhnoor Sports Club. Lt Sharma laid down his life on September 12, 1965, while valiantly defending the nation in a fierce battle with the Pakistani army in the Kalidhar sector.
The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem, sung by students of Chander Bhaga Higher Secondary School. Army formation of 10 Infantry Division honoured the Martyr with a floral wreath laid by Lt Sarvesh Sharma.
Prominent personalities including Mohan Lal Bhagat, retired SSP and sitting MLA of Akhnoor constituency, along with Rajeev Sharma, ex-MLA and Chairman of Akhnoor Sports Club, paid floral tribute at the martyr’s bust. Wreaths were also laid by Veer Nari Sharda Bhau, Club patron S K Sharma, and Rakesh Malhotra on behalf of the Club president.
Members of the Club’s executive body, retired army personnel, Veer Naries, sportspersons, and prominent citizens also paid their respects.
