JAMMU, Dec 26: Members of the Rashtriya Hind Sangh (RHS) today staged a protest in Jammu, demanding immediate and effective action against what they described as the growing presence of illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, in the region.
Raising slogans and carrying placards, the protesters urged the administration to launch a comprehensive verification and deportation drive and to adopt strict measures on the lines of recent actions undertaken in Uttar Pradesh against undocumented migrants.
Addressing the gathering, speakers from the organization alleged that illegal immigration was posing serious social, economic and security challenges for the local population, putting pressure on civic amenities and affecting employment opportunities for locals.
The protesters also claimed that Hindus in Bangladesh were being targeted, alleging incidents of houses being torched and girls being raped, and questioned why people from across the border were being given shelter in India under such circumstances.
They issued a warning that if the administration fails to take effective steps for the deportation of illegal immigrants by January 8, they would themselves visit the alleged illegal settlements of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in Jammu and remove them.
