JAMMU, July 12: To promote entrepreneurship, capacity building and development of infrastructure under various Central, State and NABARD schemes, a review meeting was held in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST) campus under the chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production Department.
During the meeting, a roadmap for promoting the agriculture production and allied sectors was deliberated in depth for having self sufficiency in the food grain and other sectors.
The key focus areas which were projected during the meeting were value addition and processing of the produce to avoid the post harvest losses, distress sale of commodities, engagement of local unemployed youth in meat and poultry products ventures under SKEWPY, establishment of mutton and dairy sectors under Private Public Partnership (PPP) mode, promotion of live stock production by giving priority to fodder production in the Agriculture policy and planning of skill development within the micro environment for better utilization of land resources.
The present status with regard to the establishment of new KVKs in J&K was also discussed and it was stressed that efforts will be made by the concerned agencies for the establishment in the concerned districts.
Chief General Manager assured full cooperation for supporting the projects to be submitted by the State Agriculture Universities and Development Departments.
Prof Dilip K Arora, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu stressed the need of developing the best infrastructure for taking up the research in the agriculture and allied sectors.
The meeting was attended by Director Command Area, Director Agriculture, Director Horticulture (P&M), Managing Director JKHPMC, Director Horticulture, Director Research and Extension SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir.
