Retired police personnel urge LG to resolve long-pending grievances

JAMMU, Oct 4: The Non-Gazetted Police Pensioners Welfare Forum has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to resolve several long-pending issues faced by retired police personnel.
In a detailed memorandum, the forum highlighted discrimination in pay anomaly implementation under Government Order number 229-F of 2014, demanding that the benefit be made effective from 1996, when the 5th Pay Commission was implemented, instead of prospectively from 2014.
They also sought extension of the ECHS card facility to those who retired before 2019, arguing that only post-2019 retirees are currently eligible for it.
The forum further demanded enhancement of medical allowance from the existing Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 per month, at par with other Union Territories, as well as 10 percent reservation in professional colleges and recruitment for children of police personnel.
They also urged the authorities to ensure proper redressal of retirees’ grievances, which they said were often neglected by local police officers.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Ajit Singh, President of the All J&K Retired Police, NGOs and Personnel Forum, met the Inspector General of Police, Jammu, and apprised him about the demands of the retired personnel.
The IGP gave a patient hearing and assured that he would take up the matter with the Government for sympathetic consideration.
The retirees also requested the IGP to hold a special darbar to listen to their issues in person.
