JAMMU, May 19: The second monthly meeting of the retired police personnel was held today under the chairmanship of Karanjit Singh, President, Retirees Police League, District Jammu, at the League’s office in the Gandhi Nagar area.
A statement said during the meeting, various issues concerning police pensioners were discussed in detail.
The main focus was to extend full support to Jammu and Kashmir Police in tackling the current security challenges posed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
The veterans expressed readiness to assist the Police Department whenever required.
The retired personnel also urged the administration to simplify the process of weapon licence renewal for ex-police officials.
They suggested that licences be renewed either on the basis of simple verification or the Government should issue weapons to them at the Village Defence Committee (VDC) level, citing their training and experience in handling arms.
They said many ex-policemen live in almost every locality and their services could be crucial in ensuring community-level security.
The current renewal process, they added, is unnecessarily cumbersome and causes harassment to aged veterans.
Officers from Police Station Gandhi Nagar also attended the meeting. A meaningful interaction was held to discuss measures for improving local policing and strengthening security in the area, which houses many VIPs and important installations.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were retired SSP Suresh Kumar Sharma, Vice President Mohammad Sadiq, Office Secretary Inspector Taj Mohammad, Ramesh Sharma, VR. Bali, Kirpal Singh (Coordinator), and retired SIs Bhram Datt and others.
The meeting concluded with a tea session.
