Retired police officers hold monthly meet, propose representation in UT Assembly

JAMMU, June 10: The monthly meeting of the Ex-Policemen League, District Jammu, was held today under the chairmanship of Karanjit Singh, President of the League.
Several pressing issues concerning the welfare of retired police personnel were discussed during the meeting.
A major proposal put forward during the meeting was the nomination of a representative of retired police personnel to the UT Assembly to ensure their concerns are raised at the Government level.
The name of Dr Ashok Bhan, former DGP, was proposed for the role. Members praised Dr Bhan for his integrity, experience in policing, and dedicated service during the peak of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting highlighted the need for better medical facilities, equal treatment for all retirees regardless of their date of retirement, and unemployment concerns of the children of retired personnel.
Members also demanded the implementation of 8th Pay Commission benefits for all retirees, stressing that police officers dedicate the prime years of their lives in service to the nation.
A large number of retired officers attended the meeting, including Ranjit Singh, Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, Prabhdyal Sharma, Savita Parihar (SSPs), BL Kaul, BL Gharyali, SR Datta, CM Bakshi, DD Sharma (SPs), Kamal Sharma, Mohan Singh, Surinder Pal Singh (DSPs), NK Bali (Inspector), and SIs Ramesh Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Satpal Singh, Dhian Singh, VR Bali, Avtar Singh, Satpal (Cashier), and Kirpal Singh.
The members also endorsed a symbolic journey on the Vande Bharat Express from Katra to Kashmir, promoting national unity under the theme “India’s Oneness – Kashmir to Kanyakumari.”
The meeting concluded with a vegetarian lunch, and participants expressed gratitude to the Police Department for logistical support.
