Srinagar, Aug 20: The Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar on Wednesday convicted retired IAS officer Habibul Hassan Beigh, former member of the J&K Government’s Special Tribunal, in a decades-old disproportionate assets case registered in 1997.
ACB in a statement said that “Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal, pronounced the judgment in case FIR No. 22/1997 of Police Station VOK (now ACB), sentencing Beigh to one year of imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹15 lakh.”
The case, registered on April 24, 1997, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, and the J&K Public Men & Public Servants Declaration of Assets Act, 1983, alleged that the officer had amassed huge movable and immovable assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During the investigation conducted by VOK (now ACB), both oral and documentary evidence established the charges against Beigh beyond doubt. The charge sheet was filed in November 2000 before the Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, leading to today’s conviction.
On behalf of the ACB Srinagar, the case was argued by Senior Prosecuting Officer Wajahat Jameel. (KDC)
