JAMMU, Nov 24: A meeting of the J&K Govt Retiree Pensioner Employees Association was held here today and discussed issues seeking immediate attention of the concerned authorities, public representatives and also general public to the long standing and unresolved grievance of pensioners.
They highlighted that their pensioner benefits have been stopped by the Government, causing significant financial hardship. “Many of us have taken private loans for our children’s marriage, education, and other essential expenses, relying on our pension benefits for repayment,” they added.
They demanded release pending pensioner benefits at the earliest, provide the benefits with interest, calculated from the date of pensioner, as compensation for the delayed payment.
“We urge the Government to look into this matter urgently and take necessary actions to restore our benefits, ensuring that we can meet our financial obligations and live with dignity,” they said, adding that these issues are not isolated incident but reflect widespread systematic problems that require urgent intervention.
“Despite years of dedicated services, several irregularities and delays have occurred causing mental, emotional and financial distress to many pensioners. Withholding or delaying post-retirement dues is a violation of constitutional right to life and dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. Pension related benefits are legal entitlements and cannot be stopped,” they said.
The aggrieved pensioners said that suffering caused by the delays has resulted immense mental, emotional and financial stress among the senior citizens. “Many retired employees are experiencing unacceptable delays often ranging from a year in receiving their Gratuity, GP Fund, Commuted Loan etc which are retirement benefits, employees own hard earned saving etc,” they said, adding that this was impacting their ability to manage crucial life expenses such as medical treatment, education, marriage of children, house repair etc.
