JAMMU, Apr 19: Kashmiri Pandit leaders and social activists have expressed their serious concern over the failure of Government in implementation of Migrants Immovable Properties Act 1997 in letter and spirit and immediate restoration of migrants land in the Valley.
In a joint statement issued here, today they appealed Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Lt. Governor and Chief Minister J&K to take cognizance of illegal occupation and grabbing of private land of migrants, that of their shrines and temples by land mafia who is working actively in the Valley.
They alleged at various places the revenue records were tampered by way of mutations under Section 4 and 8 and thus further sold these lands to the beneficiaries on hefty amounts. There is a nexus between land grabbers and lower revenue officials with whose convince, they have cause loss of crores to the migrant immovable property over there.
It is very strange that there is no accountability at any end in the administration and land mafia is freely ruling the roost despite Immovable Migrant Property Act 1997 in place which has been made totally defunct.
Prominent KP leaders and social activists, including M K Yogi, Vinod Pandita, Rishi Kilam, Sanjay Dhar, Vijay Raina, Sunil Bhat and others have said that the migrants are running from pillar to post in Valley for seeking justice in restoration of their private land, land of their temples and shrines but to no avail due to callousness of those at the helm of affairs.
They said that tampering in revenue records of migrant lands through section 4 and 8 have become common which under Immovable Migrant Property Act 1997 is not applicable to migrant lands after their forceful migration in 1989-1990.
In an appeal to Government they demanded constituting a High Level Committee under the supervision of a High Court Judge to unearth encroachment of migrant land and deep nexus that has caused irreparable loss to the Kashmiri Pandits.
