SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Ali Mohammad Sagar, General Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference today stated that the restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir would serve as a key indicator of the Central Government’s commitment to democracy, dignity and development in the region.
In a statement issued, the NC leader said that the assurance given by Narendra Modi regarding the restoration of statehood has rekindled hope among the people of J&K.
He emphasized that statehood is not merely a constitutional formality but represents the rightful empowerment of people through their elected representatives.
Highlighting the administrative benefits, Sagar noted that restoration of statehood would improve governance by enhancing administrative efficiency and policy responsiveness.
He said an empowered legislature and elected government would be better positioned to address region-specific issues such as infrastructure development, employment generation, industrial growth, tourism, horticulture and youth welfare.
Sagar further stated that Jammu and Kashmir has immense untapped potential and statehood would enable the formulation of policies aligned with local socio-economic realities, thereby accelerating development and attracting investment.
“The timely restoration of statehood would usher in a new era of peace, stability and inclusive development in the region,” he asserted.
