JAMMU, July 12: The residents of Panchayat Dhoke Waziran today held a protest demonstration against the attempts of the Army to demarcate the area for acquisition.
Carrying pla-cards, hundreds of people including women and children led by Sarpanch Raman Wazir and other Panchayat members came out on roads and raised slogans against the Army and the Civil Administration.
The protestors alleged that the Army is acquiring the land, which has been reserved and marked for public use.
Addressing the protestors, Wazir alleged that the Army is trying to demarcate the Panchayat land for UAV, which is great injustice with the hundreds of people residing here.
He added that the Panchayat has reserved this land for mini-stadium, community hall, Primary Health Centre and a veterinary hospital and by acquiring this land, Army is trying to deprive the people of their basic needs, which will not be allowed.
Earlier, Army has already acquired the fertile and suitable land of the Panchayat land, displacing the people settled here, Wazir said, adding that the people are against the proposed acquisition, as hundreds of people will get displaced.
“We don’t want to give any land to Army now and if any such attempt took place in future, then we will intensify the agitation and for any untoward incident, the Army and the Civil Administration will be responsible”, Wazir said.
Later, on the assurance of Tehsildar and senior officials, the protestors dispersed.
