Residents demand petrol pump on Warpora-Sopore route functional

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Residents traveling between Warpora and Sopore in North Kashmir today demanded the only petrol pump in the Warpora area for alleged violations of norms should be re-opened as the people of suffering.
Commuters highlighted the inconvenience caused by the absence of a petrol pump along the 36-kilometer stretch between Warpora and Sopore, forcing them to travel long distances to refuel.
“The petrol pump at Warpora was convenient for us, but now it is closed, and the nearest pumps are too far away. Petrol is essential. I came here to refill my tank, but it’s locked, and I don’t have enough fuel to reach another station. I never faced such issues before,” a commuter said.
The closure followed complaints about violations of standard operating procedures by the DC Point Petrol Pump, operating under the name Gul Motors in Warpora. Authorities cancelled the license issued to Mohammad Ashraf Khan, a resident of Chinkipora in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The additional Deputy, Commissioner Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, confirmed that the station was shut down due to violations of fuel distribution norms. “We received complaints about the petrol pump issuing fuel beyond the permissible limits. During the investigation, we found merit in the complaints and observed the owner had violated the criteria,” the official said.
Raina, however, assured that the administration is coordinating with relevant agencies to resolve the issue. “Efforts are underway to establish a fully functional petrol pump to address the needs of the people,” he added.
