SRINAGAR, Nov 17: The locals from Chattergul in Ganderbal district today demanded that the pristine area of Bada be developed as a tourist destination to create employment opportunities for the youth.
They stated that if developed, the area could become a major tourist attraction, reducing their dependence on Government jobs.
Chowdhary Ata Muhammad Qamar, a resident, highlighted the region’s scenic beauty and called for its promotion to attract visitors from various places.
“The development of this area as a tourist destination will not only generate employment for locals but also foster cultural integration,” he said.
He noted that Chattergul faces higher unemployment compared to other areas. “If the Government develops this place as a tourist destination, we will not ask for jobs from the Government anymore,” he added.
The locals emphasized that with proper focus, the area could surpass popular tourist destinations like Pahalgam and Gulmarg.
“To achieve this, there is a need to construct proper roads, build huts, and initiate small-scale gondola projects. We are confident it will outshine the existing tourist spots,” they said, expressing hope that the Government would heed their demands.
Samiullah Khatana, a student, added that they are not asking for jobs outright, acknowledging the challenges of securing employment in the current times.
“This area is breathtaking and has immense potential to become a major tourist attraction. Additionally, there are other nearby places that could also be developed,” he said.
