SRINAGAR, June 17: The issue of reservations in promotions for Government employees rocked the Assembly for second consecutive day as opposition Congress members demanded an amendment to the State Reservation Law.
Several MLAs from Congress, National Conference and ruling PDP stormed the Well of House to register their protest against the alleged Government inaction in restoring the reservation in promotions for Government employees.
Congress leader Nawang Rigzin Jora said Speaker Kavinder Gupta should direct the Government to bring an amendment to the Reservation Law that will restore the reservation in promotions for Government employees.
Law Minister Abdul Haq Khan intervened in the matter and reiterated that the House can deliberate on the matter only after the apex court has delivered its verdict on it. “The members are aware that the matter is pending adjudication before the Supreme Court. Let the Supreme Court give its verdict and then we can take it forward,” he added.
Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Choudhry Zulfkar Ali today said that the issue of promotions under Reservation Quota is sub-judice with Supreme Court of India. He said that the issue will be considered as and when the judgment of Supreme Court in this regard is received. He said this while reacting on the issue raised by some members in the House.
Not satisfied with the Government statement, three Congress MLAs – Jora, Asghar Ali Karbalaie and Chaudhary Mohammad Akram-tired to storm the Well of the House again but the marshalls blocked their way. They later staged a walkout from the House. The issue had figured in the House yesterday and on Tuesday as well.
