As expected under the leadership of Narendra Modi, some political rights for which refugees from west Pakistan living in Jammu have been raising voices have been addressed and in the beginning, a high powered committee constituted by the Rajya Sabha has recommended reservation of 2 seats in the legislative assembly for them and taking 8 from the frozen 24 seats for the areas which lie in POK in favour of refugees from POK living in Jammu. This was not only going to restore political rights to the refugees from POK and from West Pakistan who have been living in Jammu since decades but increase at least 10 seats for Jammu region. This needs an amendment in the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and as and when government formation takes place in the state, efforts can be taken in this regard at an earliest convenience.
