JAMMU, July 1: Dr Pardeep Mahotra, media incharge of J&K BJP, today termed Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s decision to replace the term “Paramedical” with “Allied and Healthcare” as a landmark reform under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement issued today, Dr Mahotra said the move formalized through an official order today on Doctor’s Day reflects the Modi Government’s strong commitment to honouring and empowering the medical fraternity. “This long-overdue reform brings dignity, structure and recognition to lakhs of professionals who play a vital role in supporting clinical services and patient care across the country,” he said.
He emphasized that the change is not merely semantic but a foundational transformation that will restructure healthcare delivery in India. Under the provisions of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, the decision will place 10 major categories of professionals under a formal regulatory framework. These include physiotherapists, radiology and imaging professionals, medical lab scientists, nutritionists, optometrists, occupational therapists, behavioral health experts, trauma care specialists, physician associates and health informatics professionals.
“This reform ensures standardized education, ethical practices and defined career pathways, thus enhancing the quality and accountability of healthcare services,” Dr Mahotra stated. He added that the move will particularly benefit patients in rural and underserved areas by ensuring access to well-trained and clearly designated healthcare professionals.
Dr Mahotra said the decision will also open new avenues for employment and skill development in the health sector, aligning with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. “It reflects the Modi Government’s broader commitment to building a robust and inclusive healthcare infrastructure—not just through hospitals, but through empowering human resources with recognition, reform, and alignment to global standards,” he said.
