JAMMU, Jan 4: The Relief and Rehabilitation Organization organized an awareness programme on NAFSA and various Social Welfare Schemes at Durga Nagar Sector 1.
Commissioner, Relief and Rehabilitation, Dr. Arvind Karwani, was the chief guest in the camp who was accompanied by senior officers including the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners (Relief & Rehabilitation).
During the programme, the representatives of Durga Nagar Welfare Coordination Committee (DNWCC)— Sanjay Ganjoo, Behari Lal Raina, M. K. Razdhan and C. L. Dhar—on behalf of the residents of Durga Nagar and Dogra Nagar brought several important public grievances and issues to the notice of the Commissioner and other officers.
They informed them that NAFSA punching issue is particularly affecting migrants registered in Jammu but presently residing outside the UT due to unavoidable circumstances.
The said that due to duplicity and discrepancies in Ayushman Bharat Cards, the beneficiaries are shown as registered locals instead of migrants in the system.
On-the-spot directions were issued by the authorities to the concerned Camp Officer to scrutinize such cases and initiate rectification through NIC.
A demand was raised that migrants be temporarily granted Municipal voting rights in Jammu for accessing basic civic amenities until permanent rehabilitation, while retaining Assembly and Parliamentary voting rights in the Valley. The Commissioner assured that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
Other issues highlighted during the interaction included NAFSA benefits and coverage, Social Welfare Schemes, medical assistance facilities, old age pension, self-employment and loan facilities for unemployed youth.
Core concern highlights was the long-pending enhancement of migrant relief, which presently stands a meager amount of  Rs. 3,250 per soul,. It was pointed out that this relief amount has remained unchanged for the past eight years without any revision and it is difficult now to meet even basic day-to-day household expenses in the present economic conditions by the relief holders.
Commissioner assured the gathering that the matter would be taken up with the Government at the appropriate level for necessary consideration and redressal.
The issue of flood-affected victims of 2025 was raised
and the authorities assured that the matter has been taken up and necessary steps will be initiated to ensure early release of relief to the affected families.
