JAMMU, July 6: The Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) convened an important meeting today in Jammu, chaired by Mohd Ashraf Sheikh, provincial president EJAC and JKUT president JK Teachers Forum, with Tarun Gupta, provincial general secretary of EJAC, co-chairing the session.
The meeting brought together a broad and representative group of senior Trade Union leaders and employee delegates from various sectors across Jammu and Kashmir. The members deliberated on the long-standing and pressing issues faced by daily wagers and frontline workers, particularly ASHA and Anganwadi workers, whose contributions to public service continue to be underappreciated and inadequately compensated.
During meeting a number of resolutions were unanimously passed, reflecting the collective will and urgency felt by the leadership. The house strongly emphasized the immediate need for framing and implementation of a comprehensive regularization policy for all categories of daily wagers. They also raised demand for the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act across all departments in the Union Territory.
The house also called for urgent steps to clear pending financial claims, including GP Fund withdrawals, SLI pending bills, leave salary, commutation benefits, and Gratuity payments, many of which have been delayed for months due to bottlenecks at the treasury level. The restoration of the old pension scheme was also reiterated as a long-standing and just demand.
They pointed out that there are at least 75,000 teachers appointed under the ReT Scheme, and after five years, they are converted to general line teachers. Unfortunately, these teachers are not included in the annual transfer drive.
The house unanimously resolved to organize a mega conference in the coming month, to be spearheaded by EJAC. The conference will serve as a united platform for employees from all sectors to voice their concerns and demand action.
