Usually, the Central Government announces DA installment in favour of its employees/pensioners in the months of January and July as per rise or fall in price index and the percentage of DA depends on price index. All other federating units/states also announce the same in favour of their employees/pensioners in quick succession one after the other. But it has been observed that our State generally lags far behind in doing so, the reasons best known to those at the helm of affairs. The financial constraints are not responsible for the delay because the Government keeps the provision of DA in the budget beforehand. The demon of dearness does not distinguish between two categories of Central Government and State Government employees and it axes the State Government employees with the same sharpness and vigour: as it does to the other. So there seems no justification in delaying the payment of DA to employees/pensioners. The Central Government has been more benevolent to its employees by sanctioning bonus to them and the same should be done by the State Government to its employees. So it is urged that 6 percent DA be announced immediately to give succor to the employees/pensioners in these hard times when the prices are sky rocketing.
